White fused alumina for gel coat mold sandblasting
Gel coat resin is a kind of gel coat layer attached to the surface of FRP products to protect FRP material. Usually, the gel coat is sprayed on the surface of the mold firstly. Then, after demolding, the gel coat becomes the surface layer of the FRP product. The gel coat without surface treatment has a bright looking. To get a matte texture of the gel coat, it has to take sandblasting surface treatment on the gel coat mold in advance. After that, the surface of the gel coat gets rough and reduces the brightness. Generally, white fused alumina with grits F60/F80/F120/F220 works as the sandblasting medium for gel coat mold. The higher the mesh number, the smaller the particles of white fused alumina. Accordingly, it will get a finer matte effect.
At present, gel coat resins are well-known in sanitary ware and yacht industries. Compared with traditional ceramic sanitary products, FRP with gel coat sanitary products have become popular in the sanitary industry. The matte bathroom products can improve the visual effect of the product’s appearance and achieve a soft feeling. In the meantime, it is superior stain resistance and scratch resistance. The traditional abrasive of white fused alumina once again works in the new technology field to play the role of “industrial teeth”.
